FINANCIAL COMMITMENT

Our goals at Deep Roots are to strive for social justice by making progressive education equally affordable for all who are invested in the model, as well as to bring children of diverse backgrounds together to learn with and from one another.

To this end, we do not charge tuition. After much research and careful consideration, we have decided upon a financial commitment plan where each family shall invest a percentage of their household income to support their child's growth within Deep Roots School. The words “tuition” and “aid” are purposefully not used because language matters, and we are not interested in forming a community of “haves” and “have nots.” Rather, we live with ubuntu, recognizing that we are equal and connected in all that we do.

Women Holding Hands

“Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can’t exist as a human being in isolation. It speaks about our interconnectedness. You can’t be human all by yourself ... We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected, and what you do affects the whole world. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity.”

(Desmond Tutu)
